Clarence Dickson rose through the ranks and became Miami’s first Black chief of police in 1985. While Dickson’s photo isn’t hanging on the walls of the police academy, the building will now bear his name in perpetuity. This week, the Miami Police Department officially renamed the police academy the Chief Clarence Dickson Police College.
