Donald Trump has launched a furious online attack on Letitia James after the New York attorney general said she now wants the former president to be fined $370 million, plus interest, in his civil-fraud case in the state.

In a post on his Truth Social website, written entirely in block capitals, Trump branded James “totally corrupt,” without providing any supporting evidence, argued the case “should never have been brought” and wrote that “they should pay me.”

James, a Democrat, has accused Trump, his adult sons and The Trump Organization of fraudulently overvaluing their assets to secure more favorable bank loans and taxation deals. The New York attorney general’s lawsuit initially sought $250 million in damages but, in a court filing on Friday, James increased this to $370 million, plus interest. She said this reflected new evidence that had come to light during the trial. Newsweek has reached out to the office of Letitia James for comment by email on Saturday.
