A top Russian military official came close to death in a Ukrainian attack, The Washington Post reported, citing Ukrainian intelligence.
Valery Gerasimov, Chief of the General Staff of Russia’s military, was on a list of several top commanders that Ukraine’s security service was trying to kill, per the newspaper.
Many of the strikes succeeded, but not the one against Gerasimov, The Post reported.
It did not specify where or when the attack happened.
In December 2022, The New York Times reported that Gerasimov was visiting the front lines when he came under attack. It also gave no details of the attempt.
Ukraine’s security services have conducted such operations with elite teams of Ukrainian operatives since Russia first invaded Ukraine’s eastern Donbas region in 2014, according to The Post.
