Ukraine evacuated thousands of residents from the northeastern region of Kharkiv, as President Volodymyr Zelenskyy warned “fierce battles” were being fought there and villages were being turned into a “combat zone.”

More than 5,700 civilians have been evacuated from their homes, Kharkiv Governor Oleh Syniehubov said Monday according to his Telegram channel.

Russia is “advancing from multiple positions” after delays in Western military aid, he warned in an interview with Sky News in Kharkiv. Russia was able to open a new front in northeastern Ukraine due to delays in the supply of Western weapons, he explained.
